Chapter 88–“Blood Rage”

Characters- Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, Zenigata, his assistant, the chief, Fujiko, Ichihei, a task force operative

Synopsis- To find out a man’s name, Lupin’s tortured him and killed his son. Then he rapes the woman who rescued him. What’s going on?!

Firsts-

Links to animated Lupin- Parts of this appear in series 2’s “Fry me to the Moon”

Review- Volume 11 begins. This is a great story, a bit darker though, but it shows what kinda corruption exists in the world, and what Lupin will NOT do. There’s some great physical humor and a chuckle-inducer at the end. 9/10

Chapter 89–“Pink Diamonds”

Characters- Lupin, Fujiko

Synopsis- Fujiko has blown up Lupin’s hideout and stole a small package of diamonds. And Lupin’s gonna get it back.

Review- Lupin vs. Fujiko again. Monkey Punch is at the top of his form artistically, as shown in the slapstick that Lupin takes and the detail that the characters are drawn in. The story is silent (kinda like Marvel’s “’nuff Said” thing that they did a few years back) except for the last 3 panels. For the most part, it’s a pretty good chapter. 8.7/10

Chapter 90–“Cue the Trouble”

Characters- Arséne Lupin, Arséne Lupin II, Arséne Lupin III, Lupin II’s wife, Fujiko, Fujiko, other women

Synopsis- After bedding 2 Fujikos, and seeing a weird Monkey-like thing, Lupin hears a voice calling for him.

Firsts- First appearance of Arséne Lupin I and II since the ‘Young Lupin’ stories

Links to animated Lupin- None, but it’d be a good opener for a movie

Review- 2 Fujikos, eh? Well, this chapter is interesting in the fact that Lupin’s family appears, and has some great artwork and comedy to go along with it. My main problem with this one is that it has a unresolved ending. We learn of the Pandora Clan and what they want, then it ends. Oy. The Pandoras are never mentioned or referenced to again. Anyway, it’s worth a read. 8/10

Notes- The final chapter in the old artwork style. Monkey Punch switches to a cartoonier and more exaggerated style starting with the next chapter.

Chapter 91–“King of the Cave”

Characters- Lupin, Zenigata, a guard, Prison warden, executioner

Synopsis- Lupin’s back in the pen! He been there for three years, and now Zenigata is on his way to watch the executioner do his job.

Firsts- First chapter in the cartoony, exaggerated style. First time Lupin’s been imprisoned and had a beard since chapter 2.

Review- Eew. The style change here isn’t really noticeable, but it does look good nonetheless. Lupin’s attempts at escape are, at times, a tad farfecthed and gross, but mildly amusing. The ending, though, is the best part because of the cleverness and overall coolness of the escape. 8/10

Notes- On page 107, “it” is misspelled as “is”

Chapter 92–“Dead for Life”

Characters- Lupin, Fujiko, Dr. Frank N. Stein, Zenigata, the players of the game.

Synopsis- After intervening a die game of life and death , Lupin has to face a scientist who can manipulate the dead.

Firsts-

Links to animated Lupin- I believe a Dr. Frank type-character appeared in the 2nd series

Review- “Fly away, birdy.” Now MP’s new style is more noticable, and, in my opinion, looks better. Everything falls into place perfectly: Lupin’s disguise, the villian, the game, and a hyptonised Lupin. Hilarious and a great setup of part 2. 10/10

Notes- Dr. Fank is my all-time favorite Lupin villian, ever.

--
Chapter 93–“Death After Life”

Characters- Lupin, Dr. Frank, some servants, a woman

Synopsis- Lupin has invited Dr. Frank to his place for dinner in an attempt to try to obtain his hyptnotic serum.

Firsts-

Links to animated Lupin- See last chapter.

Review- And thus Volume 11 and the Dr. Frank stories come to a close. Like the previous chapter, this one scores on all levels. The artwork is great and the story is filled with humorous moments. The relationship between Lupin and Dr. Frank is an interesting as well, because of their mutal respect for each other. Sadly, there’s a couple of groan-worthy puns this time. But, bad jokes excepted, it’s still a great chapter. 10/10
