Chapter 10-"Educating Lupin"

Characters-Lupin, Fujiko, a bald guy, assorted thugs

Synopsis- Fujiko goofed up. Her faulty memory caused her to bungle her job. So, what does Lupin do? They re-enact the job to see where she went wrong.

Firsts- None

Links to animated Lupin- None

Review- Volume Two begins! This time, Lupin and Fuji-chan are reenacting a failed assassination attempt. This one is great. Explosions, a beautiful woman, gunfire, traps, and ninja tools! This one is all about humor. Lupin's forgetful partner causes him to receive some serious abuse here. However, it'll all be worth it in the end, right? 10/10

Notes-This was actually the final chapter in the Japanese Volume One.

Chapter 11-"Hail to the King"

Characters-Lupin, Fujiko, Jigen, King, King's goons, a nurse, 2 doctors, assorted patients

Synopsis- A train explosion leaves Lupin in a hospital wrapped up like a mummy. However, when a crime lord's goons come to kill him, Lupin turns the tables on them and escapes. When he gets home, he discovers that Lupin the Second has been murdered, and Jigen and Fujiko are turning against him to work for the aforementioned crime lord, King.

Firsts- First correct spelling of "Jigen". First mention of Lupin II. First time Jigen double-crosses Lupin (something that doesn't happen very often in the anime)

Links to animated Lupin- None.

Review- While last chapter was sort of lighthearted and humorous; this one's a bit darker. Don't get me wrong, one of the funniest moments in Lupin III history occurs here, but the overall tone is different. Still, it's a great story of deceit, murder, and revenge. 9/10

Notes-Lupin mentions here that he and Jigen grew up together, and that Jigen has a little sister.

Chapter 12- "Damned if You Do"

Characters-Lupin, Lupin's girlfriend, Jigen, Zenigata, various cops, foreman, ect.

Synopsis- Cops are surrounding a dam which Lupin has targeted. Jigen is wondering if it would be a good idea to continue along with the plan. Meanwhile, Lupin and his girlfriend are- well -it's probably not too hard to figure out what they're doing together. Also, Zenigata is trying to figure out why Lupin has targeted the dam...

Firsts- First appearance of Zenigata in Volume 2. First heist Lupin and Jigen pull off together. Debut of Zenigata's trench coat.

Links to animated Lupin- The heist at the end of this chapter appears in episode 4 of the first TV series.

Review- Not much goes on here. Even though, it's still pretty good. The old man appears for the first time since Chapter eight, and he's hot on Lupin's trail. If the inspector was dealing with anyone else, he'd caught them easily, but this is Lupin the Third, and this story displays how good of a cop he is, even though Lupin makes him look like an idiot. Some humorous moments involving Jigen, some water, along with explosives and Zenigata. At first it may seem as though Lupin's girlfriend is just eye candy, but she plays a crucial part in the story. 8/10

Notes-In the anime version of the end of the story, small changes were made, such as Jigen piloting the helicopter, and Lupin being shot down with tranquilizer darts.

Chapter 13- "To Catch A Killer"

Characters-Lupin, Jigen, Fujiko, fake Lupin, various cops

Synopsis- A string of murders point to one suspect: Lupin. So, the police hire Jigen to take him down.

Firsts- None

Links to animated Lupin- none

Review- No review until I figure this one out.

Notes-

Chapter 14- "Interview With a Lupin"

Characters-Lupin, a reporter, a random girl, Nikaido

Synopsis- A reporter has found Lupin's hideout and is conducting an interview with the master thief. But when she kidnaps Lupin, her boss forces him to follow his every command or else a girl they picked up off the street dies.

Firsts- None

Links to animated Lupin- Lupin is captured and steals an armored car in the first TV series episode, "When the Seventh Bridge Falls" the same way he does here.

Review- This one's good. Lupin becomes a slave-boy to Nikaido. And Lupin is double-crossed throughout the whole story. It's interesting to see how the wolf reacts to being wrapped around Nikaido's pinky. As usual, it's full of action, but is kinda light on comedy this time around. 8.7/10

Notes-On page 108, Lupin's boxer shorts go flying thru the air, but on panel 8 of the next page, he's wearing them. 3 panels later, Lupin is fully dressed.

Chapter 15-"Snowfall on Sisters"

Characters-Lupin, 2 sisters, the village elder, his son, Zenigata, various cops

Synopsis- 2 sexy sisters have escaped from prison, thanks to Lupin. Why? Because they have half of a statue that's worth a whole lot.

Firsts- First time Lupin actually buys something instead of stealing it.

Links to animated Lupin- This episode partially became "Who's Laughing Last?" of the original TV series.

Review- Two gorgeous sisters meet up with Lupin, and you know that calls for an interesting story. This one's pretty good, but the only drawbacks were the constant "2-on-one" jokes. The humor in Lupin III can be raunchy sometimes yet still be funny, and this story was almost an exception. However, it seems like Monkey Punch knew when to stop. Good idea. Zenigata appears here, but does nothing more than to add a little humor to the ending. And of course, as always, there's a lot of action. 7/10

Notes-none.

Chapter 16-"Lupin III: Behind the Manga"

Characters-Lupin, Ron, Monkey Punch, various assassins, Pepe and Henrik

Synopsis- Lupin the 3rd gives Monkey Punch a tour of his hideout.

Firsts- First appearance of Monkey Punch as a main character.

Links to animated Lupin- None

Review- Monkey Punch decided to add himself to the action this time, with hilarious results. Lupin shows him the disguise room, surveillance center, and how he deals with hitmen. 10/10

Notes-Monkey Punch becomes a main character again in Chapter 48: "The Dream Sequence"
*Also, the Japanese title for this one was, "The Twelfth Chapter Regarding Lupin". Personally, I liked the original name better.

Chapter 17-"A is for Action, B is for Bomb"

Characters-Lupin, Jigen, Pycal's wife, hitmen, thug

Synopsis-Random bridges have been exploding lately. Lupin and Jigen go to find the culprit.

Firsts- First mention of Pycal outside of Chapter 7.

Links to animated Lupin- This episode partially became the first TV series episode, "When the seventh bridge falls"

Review- I love this one. It is hilarious. It also features mentions of Pycal, because his widow is in the story. The story has a very simple plot, and is easy to follow. I recommend this one. 10/10

Notes-Pycal was misspelled again. This time he's Vical.
