Chapter 57-"The World on a String"

Characters- Lupin, Jigen, Fujiko, Goemon, Organization members

Synopsis- Lupin got the crap beaten outta him due to some information on a roll of microfilm. And now he's trying to get it back? ...and what's with the ice-cold skin of the organization&'s man?

Firsts- First Goemon disguise

Links to animated Lupin-

Review- Not bad, not bad at all...a tad confusing at times, but has some genuinely funny moments, like the final panel, for instance. Some nice action scenes are here as well. 7/10

Notes-How the heck did Goemon's disguise work with his long hair?

Chapter 58-"Camera Tricks"

Characters- Lupin, Zenigata, some cops, Fujiko, Jigen, Goemon, a photographer

Synopsis- Jigen and Fujiko are surrounded by cops, and Lupin's trying to seduce a female photographer...

Firsts-

Links to animated Lupin- This became the ending to the green jacket episode, "All Members Gather, Trump Strategy", which is one of my favorite eps of that series, by the way.

Review- OK. This one has a bit of everything: all 5 characters are here, there's some action, some comedy, an almost explicit sex scene, some backstabbing, and a smart plan. The story is one of the few really good ones featuring all the characters acting in character, and it has a satisfying ending. 10/10

Chapter 59-"Medal of Dishonor"

Characters- Lupin, Zenigata, Fujiko, cops, Rat Clan assassin

Synopsis- Lupin's been accused of robbing a dead man, and he's going to find out what the Rat Clan's connection is...

Firsts- First appearance of the Rat Clan since Vol. 4

Links to animated Lupin-

Review- Another good chapter. Lupin and Zenigata's relationship is something I've always liked about the franchise, and their brief meeting at the start here displays a different kind of bond between the two, only seen in the manga, but you still detect a hint of camaraderie between them. I also liked how Lupin took care of the assassin, it had that "Who else could do that but Lupin" feel. And there's also an amusing running gag along with a break in the 4th wall...10/10

Chapter 60-"High Art&"

Characters- Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, guests

Synopsis- At an art exhibit (or something, we never really find out), the guests find out that Lupin has killed one of them and is in disguise...

Firsts-

Review- 3 in a row! Great job, Monkey Punch! This chapter is well-crafted, with plenty of action and teamwork, but it's a bit light on the lightheartedness; not there's anything wrong with that (Yes, I'm a Seinfeld fan.), and even though it's a bit darker, the way the heist is pulled off will bring a smile to your face. 10/10

Chapter 61-"Death and Duality"

Characters- Lupin, Lupin, Fujiko, Fujiko, Daikichi, Daikichi

Synopsis- A black-haired Fujiko has thrown Lupin into a cellar where a blond Fujiko is being held, only to find another Lupin in her home. The captured Lupin finds out that anyone that enters the house gets split into their good and evil halves...

Firsts-

Review- Double the fun! The antics of the evil Lupin are most of the time funny, while the all the good Lupin does is inform the audience about what happened, although he does have the best lines in the two parter... so, part one: 8/10

Notes-Part One of 2

--

Chapter 62-"Double Your Guns"

Characters- Lupin, Lupin, Fujiko, Fujiko

Synopsis- Arséne Lupin the Third has been captured by...well, Arséne Lupin III. And each Lupin has a Fujiko on his side to help him...

Firsts-

Links to animated Lupin-

Review- Part 2 is better again. The action scenes are good, like always, and there are plenty of laughs, especially from the good Lupin...and the ending as well (and you gotta admit, Monkey Punch probably had fun drawing that last panel) so, I give Part Two a 9.8/10

Chapter 63-"Collegial Damage"

Characters- Lupin, Zenigata, a prisoner, The Dean of Todai U., a student, Lupin's friends

Synopsis- Another flashback story, although this time, we're going back to the Wolf and Zenigata's college years...but first, Lupin's got to steal the answers to the entrance exams!

Firsts- Fist Todai story

Links to animated Lupin-

Review- So, as we move forward in the series, Monkey Punch sends us back! This chapter's a good bit of character development for Lupin, as we see his old friends and how he and Zenigata met. It's got some funny moments, and it's got an almost deux-ex-machina (did I spell that right?) before the pretty amusing ending. So, 8/10

Notes-Part one of the Todai arc.

*The story calls the school "Todai", but the note at the bottom calls it "Tozai"

--

Chapter 64-"Campus Strife"

Characters- Lupin, Zenigata, other students amd teachers

Synopsis- Lupin's started controversy at Todai U. because of his Master Thief Club, and everyone wants to shut him down!

Firsts- First appearance of Fujiko's mother

Links to animated Lupin-

Review- Lupin's protesting on campus? Yup. This one's got a nice mix of comedy in the beginning with an awesome twist at the end. It's nice to see Lupin doing something honorable, even though he did it in a not-so honorable way. In my opinion, it&'s the best story in the Todai arc. 9/10

Notes-It's Tozai again

*Zenigata's first name is now Heitaro

--

Chapter 65-"A Course in Hypocrisy"

Characters- Lupin, Zenigata, various students, Prof. Yamano, other faculty members

Synopsis- After throwing an unauthorized disco party, everyone is out to expel Lupin!

Firsts-

Links to animated Lupin-

Review- Right on. After the last chapter, Lupin is back to being, well...Lupin. I didn't really like the way Lupin was protrayed here, he's too much of a jerk. However, Zenigata is showing his intelligence and cunning, proving him to be a worthy adversary for Lupin. So I'll give this one a 7.5/10, OK?

Notes-Todai or Tozai?
